Algeciras – Costa Del Sol

Transfer Time – 35 minutes

Best For – Couples and families wanting a super beach holiday and plenty historical sights too

The large port town of Algeciras lies on the west coast of the Costa Del Sol and is also very close to the resorts in Costa De La Luz, and only 8 kilometres from Gibraltar too, so a perfect destination for exploring this wonderful coastline. The old town of Algeciras is wonderful, with lots of historical buildings and architecture, winding cobbled streets and outdoor cafés, perfect for watching the world go by.

The beach in Algeciras is fabulous, in fact there are 3 beautiful coves to choose from, all with soft golden sand which shelves gently into crystal blue waters, a perfect and safe place for children to play and there’s plenty sun loungers and parasols for hire too. Each beach has a great selection of cafés and bars lining the beach where you can take a spot of lunch or a cool drink and the beaches all have their own water sports for hire too, so there’s plenty to do for the more energetic. The Playa Rae Conkillo beach has plenty activities to do too, including beach volley ball and water polo, great fun for all the family.

Evenings in Algeciras can be lively, especially during high season, however all the bars, cafés and cocktails bars are family friendly and some often have various evening entertainments for your enjoyment, i.e. bingo, quizzes and floor shows. The harbour area is a great place to spend your evenings, taking in one of the amazing fish restaurants or outdoor cafés, perfect for sitting and people watching or a romantic meal. The old town has some lovely traditional restaurants too, and some international themed menus too, along with many fast food and take aways, the choice is huge. Shopping always proves popular of an evening too, once the temperatures have dropped a bit and most shops are open til very late.

As we said before, Algeciras is perfectly located for exploring this part of Spain, with day trips into Gibraltar, Madrid and even boat trips over to Morocco and Tangier’s. For the families, there is a couple of amazing water parks, with slides, flumes and chutes to entertain the young and young at heart all day long. Algerciras is also close to the Los Alcornales nature park, a must see on any Costa Del Sol holiday. There’s so much to see and do here and its no wonder UK holiday makers return year after year, its a very popular destination
