Blanes – Costa Brava

Transfer time – 45 minutes

Best for – families and couples wanting to get away from it all

Blanes is a beautiful resort, just perfect for a relaxing holiday with plenty sunshine. Blanes is a traditional Spanish village with lots of unique historical buildings, a variety of wonderful beaches and a good choice of family activities nearby. British holiday makers have been travelling here for many years, and you will see why, in under two hours flying time, you could be enjoying this little piece of heaven before you know it.

The main beach at Blanes is St Abanell, where there is lots of golden sand, gently shelving into crystal clear waters, perfect for swimming and even better for families, shallow and warm, makes a safe environment for the little ones to paddle and build sandcastles whilst you relax on one of the sun loungers that you can hire on the beach. The beach is backed by a lovely promenade where you have a choice of cafés, bars and restaurants to escape the midday sun. for those with lots of energy, the main beach of St Abanell has a great choice of water sports on offer, there is jet skis, para gliding, pedallos and banana rides, to name but a few. Snorkelling and diving is popular here too, with clear water and plenty rocky coves to explore. For a quieter beach, walking 5 minutes in either direction will bring you to some more private coves where you can relax and chill out all day long. Blanes has many daytime activities on offer including tennis, squash, hockey, martial arts and football and there are some wonderful shops to wander around too, great for picking up a bargain or souvenir.

Night-lifefe in Blanes is varied, depending on what you are looking for. Although laid back, there is masses of bars, cafés and cocktail bars offering different themed entertainment and even a handful of discos for those who wish to dance the night away, however all are friendly family and welcome children. There is plenty of choice when it comes to eating out, the resort has over 100 places to wine and dine, traditional fish and tapas restaurants, more international themed restaurants, i.e. Indian, Chinese, Italian and Mexican, and of course there is snack bars and cafés, pizzerias and take aways. Take a ride into Lloret too, for a much livelier ambience.

Blanes is in a great location for getting out and exploring the wonderful surrounding resorts, a must is s train ride into Barcelona, to see the wonderful historical buildings, the stadium, and of course to sample the shops, bars, cafés and restaurants. For the families, Water World is a brilliant day out, Europe’s largest water park with masses of chutes and slides to keep the young and young at heart entertained all day long. Families love Port Aventura too, a brilliant theme park just outside Salou, with thrills and spills for the daredevils amongst you. Golfers will enjoy a round or two of golf on one of the championship golf courses around the Costa Brava. So much to do, so little time.
