Roquetas beach is 8 kilometres of stunning, golden sand, which gently shelves into crystal blue waters shallow and safe, perfect for families with children who want to play in the sea or for those wanting to cool down and take swim. There is plenty of sun loungers and parasols to hire and a great choice of places to get a refreshing drink or lunch. For the more energetic, there is an excellent choice of water sports on offer, from pedallos to paragliding and the local diving school will arrange tuition for adults and children alike, diving is very popular due to the clear waters in this region. There is a play park for the little ones to not to far from the beach front. Golfers will enjoy a round or two of golf on the championship course nearby or maybe a spot of horse riding, tennis or sailing, all available in the village.

Evenings in Roquetas are fairly laid back, with many hotels and apartments actually putting on their own evening entertainments. However, there is a good selection of bars and cafés offering a family friendly ambience, and there’s plenty places to get a meal, with local, traditional menus and a handful of more internationally themed restaurants too, i.e., Italian, Chinese and Indian. You can also pick up a snack in the few fast food venues and there’s even a handful of take aways too. The Moorish quarters offer wonderful winding street, full with outdoor cafés, and a busy little harbour, perfect for sitting and watching the world go by. Roquetas is a perfect resort for families with many activities in resort including a play area and there’s a mini train the runs around the resort, perfect for those who cant walk far or wish not too.

Roquetas de Mar is perfectly located for exploring this region and even getting out as far as Grenada, take in the Alhambra palace and experience the culture and history this wonderful city has to offer. A full day in the Sierra Nevada mountains is a great excursion to consider, stopping at the village of Guadix where the local people still live in caves, ten stop off on route for a little wine tasting on the way home. Boat trips are a perfect way of seeing the stunning coastline and breathtaking scenery, whether you dive or not, be sure to take a trip in a boat, you wont be disappointed.
