Silves – Algarve

Silves – Algarve

Transfer time – 50 minutes

Silves is a perfect location for those who wish to experience Portugal at its best, steeped in history. With some of it buildings dating back as far as 1000BC and buildings that survived a massive earthquake in 1755, it’s really has many places and sights to explore. Silves Castle is the largest in the Algarve with 11 towers and massive grounds to explore cathedrals and churches, just a perfect place to experience a bit of history.

The nearest beaches are approximately 15 kilometres from Silves, just a short drive and you will hit the beaches at Carvoeiro, with masses of soft golden sands and clear azure waters. Or maybe you prefer to hire a car and find one of the more secluded coves along this beautiful coast line.

Silves has a fairly busy nightlife with plenty bars and pubs to enjoy a drink or two. Eating out is easy, with a massive selection of local and international restaurants, and there plenty of small intimate places for that romantic meal too. If it’s a family travelling to Silves, there are some great family orientated eateries, catering and offering special menus just for the little ones.

Silves is in the perfect location to enjoy some of the sights, and golfers will love the choice of championship courses just a short drive from the village. Horse riding is a fun way to spend a few hours and see the countryside. The surrounding countryside is fairly flat so walkers or cyclists can enjoy wandering through the villages and into the forest or head along to nearby villages like Praia da Rocha.

Many people enjoy this little historical village and although no a beachside location, it is just a short drive from the coast and the village has many varied and wonderful sights to explore, its no wonder people return here year after year, its just Portuguese paradise.
