Family Holidays in the Algarve

Family holidays in The Algarve

If you are looking for the “perfect” place to travel with children, well look no further than The Algarve, with its long sandy beaches, little private rocky coves, all south facing, sun-drenched and safe. 99% of the beaches on the Portuguese coast have been awarded the Blue EU flag, ensuring quality and safety, which when you are travelling with children must be of paramount importance.

But beaches aside, the accommodations in The Algarve are purpose built with families in mind, you wont see big sky-rise hotels with 72 floors to deal with, nor will you find many accommodations further than a 15 minute stroll from the main town centres. The properties are generally no more than 2 storeys high and built in a Moorish style, usually with a perfect family pool to lounge around during the day, and a lot of the larger complexes have kids clubs or entertainment so you don’t have to go far to keep the little ones occupied. If you do prefer something on the quieter side, you do have the options of hiring a private villa with a pool, but we’d recommend a car hire as they do tend to be built outside the main villages.

Eating out in The Algarve is always easy and a pleasure, you will not have to go far to find somewhere to eat, as there is a large variety of restaurants on offer, especially in the larger resorts like Albufeira, Praia Da Rocha, Montegordo or Vilamoura. You can choose from traditional Portuguese cuisine, seafood is very popular and often caught fresh that day or you can always find a burger bar or takeaway, the choice is huge, even the most fussiest eaters will not be disappointed. Don’t forget to sample the local wines too, Mateus Rose is the most famous and if you get out and about, you will see the vineyards where this is produced.

Families are spoilt for choice in The Algarve when it comes to excursions, Zoo-marine is a must….with dolphin shows, acting sea lions, cheeky parrot shows not to mention, learning all about preservation of some of our most endangered marine life.

There are 3 huge water parks scattered along the coast, making it a great way to cool of in the hot Portuguese sun, and for those wanting to educate themselves and the children, there is a great choice of historical sites such as the Cathedral in Faro, Taviras Castle and historic cobbled streets, or maybe you would enjoy the mountainside spa town of Monchique.

So if you are looking for a family holiday which offers adventures, excursions, activities, beautiful beaches and a variety of villages and towns to suit everyone’s tastes and budgets, then look no further than The Algarve, it has it all!!!!
