Carvoiero – Algarve

Transfer Time – 1 hour

Best for – Families and couples looking for a relaxed Portuguese holiday

Carvoeiro is a beautiful resort, small in comparison with the larger resorts of Albufiera and Praia Da Rocha, but equally beautiful and popular with British holiday makers.  This former fishing village is a selection of dazzling white buildings, a wonderful village square and a small selection of beautiful beaches and private coves.

The main beach is located in front of the village square, it is a lovely secluded bay with lovely golden sand that shelves gently into the sea, perfect for kids to play in and particularly good for snorkelling, with crystal clear waters and plenty of rocky coves to explore. There is a good selection of water sports on the nearby Ferragudo beach too, so plenty to keep you entertained throughout the day.  There is a good selection of bars, cafes and restaurants near the seafront too, offering a spot of lunch, a cool drink and an escape from the midday sunshine.  The scenery in these parts is particularly breathtaking and walkers come from miles around for a stroll or a hike.

Evenings in Carvoeiro are pretty relaxed, generally spent in the local square, enjoying a meal, watching the street entertainers and sipping a cocktail.  The resort is perfect for families, with a few bars offering evening entertainment, and for something livelier head into near by Praia Da Rocha, where there are countless bars, restaurants and even a casino.

There is plenty to do on a holiday in Carvoeiro, and families in particular will enjoy the nearby marine park, Zoomarine, with amazing dolphin and sea lion shows and there’s also a brilliant water park for fun family days out too.  Portimao is a wonderful resort not too far away and there have some wonderful boat trips from here, definitely a great way of seeing parts of Portugal only reached by boat.  Golfers in Carvoeiro have access to 3 championship courses where you can improve your handicap in the sunshine, just perfect.  There are lots of historical sights nearby too, including ancient ruins, museums’ and architecture, enough to satisfy the culture vulture.
