Limone – Lake Garda – Italy

Limone – Lake Garda

Transfer time – 2 hours 30 mins from Verona or Bergamo

Limone is a charming and quaint resort located on the North Western shore of Lake Garda, nestled amongst the lemon groves, this resort is an artist’s paradise, a picture post card resort with houses covered in blossoming bougainvillaea and geraniums. Steeped in history, you can wander though the little cobbled streets from the lake to village centre and just bask in the glorious scenery that Limone has to offer.

Since roads arrived via a series of tunnels, first commissioned by Mussolini this resort has grown into a popular tourist area and just creates this magical feel as you wander about, taking in the oldie worldly buildings and little hidden cafes that you just happen to stumble upon or stroll down to the harbour and sit back and enjoy the locally produced liqueur Limón cello and watch the world go by.

Nightlife is fairly quiet with most evenings spent relaxing over a leisurely meal and a local bottle of wine, then maybe a wander down onto the harbour where you can sit out at a café and enjoy a relaxing drink or two. However there are regular brass band concerts and even occasional fire work displays. Tourists enjoy the shopping available here and they boutiques and shops are open into the early hours, all selling amazing leather goods, spices, dried fruits and stunning jewellery.

Water sports such as surfing are very popular from the harbour area, as is canoeing and sailing or you can catch a boat and do a half or full day trip around the lake and see many of the neighbouring resorts. Other activities include walking this has proven very popular in Limone as there is so much to see and explore, and for those not wanting to exert themselves too much, you can take an organised trip up to Tremesine, a plateaux about Limone and take one of the well marked trails back down to the village.

There are many excursions and trips on offer from lake Garda, try a half day wine tour, or maybe a full day in the Dolomite mountain range, Verona Opera or Venice by night are also very popular so you will never be short of something to do. However, many tourists return here time and time again for the shear bliss and tranquillity this stunning location has to offer. A picturesque little harbour and quirky cobbled streets, stunning views and quaint Italian charm, who needs anything else??
