Garda – Lake Garda
Transfer time – 1 hour
Garda is the most popular resort on Lake Garda with the British tourists, where you can soak up the Italian sunshine and enjoy the bustling ambiance of this wonderful resort. Located on the eastern edge of Lake Garda, it is one of the greenest locations, with stunning local flora and fauna to enjoy and one of the beast beaches around the area.
Garda is a colourful resort, not just in the greenery, but in the whole feel of the area, it is a friendly resort with welcoming locals and a reputation hard to find elsewhere in Europe. The buildings are nested gently into the surrounding hillsides and the small cobbled streets winding from the town centre to the promenade are a pleasure to wander around. The centrepiece of the town is the Venetian Palazzo Del Capitano, a stunning historical building, where the captains would meet and rub shoulders with other famous diplomats from neighbouring countries.
The local market comes to town on a Friday and you can pick up some amazing bargains on leather goods, gourmet delicacies and other such items. The promenade is traffic free, with plenty shops and boutiques to explore, you can shop till you drop. Once you are all shopped out, wander along the promenade and enjoy a coffee or Italian ice cream and watch the world go by.
At night is when Garda really comes into its own, it offers a wide selection of lively bars, delicious restaurants and cafes and of course, wonderful ice cream parlous. The main action is centred on the stunning lake front and of course there is a multitude of places to relax on an evening if you wander back into the town. This is a resort suited to all ages, families and couples, with many romantic places to wine and dine too.
Water sports are available, as well as day trips to Venice and Verona. There is also a huge Safari Park, a water park, an amusement park and a golf course nearby, so please don’t say you cant find something to suit everyone, so much to do and so little time. What a wonderful way to experience Italy at its best….that’s Garda in a nutshell.
