Best For – Couples looking for a more relaxing resort with a superb beach

Kalamaki is a glorious resort which is made famous as a nesting sight for the wonderful loggerhead turtle. It is a calm, compact resort, with some beautiful accommodations located in beautiful scenery, making walks a popular pastime too. Located a stones throw from Laganas also gives you access to a much livelier town too, so you get best of both worlds.

The days times in Kalamaki are often spent on the spectacular beach, with soft golden sands, shelving into the crystal clear waters of the Ionian sea. Perfect for children with the shallow waters and safe waterside. There is a choice of water sports for the more energetic, ranging from the gentle pedallos, canoes, all the way through to jet skis, para gliding and water skiing, to name but a few. There are plenty tavernas and cafés to escape the heat of midday and of course the main street has plenty shops and souvenir shops to wander though too.

Evenings in Kalamaki are spent enjoying a lovely meal and wine in one of the many friendly tavernas, with lots of fresh fish and local meat on the menu, served with a crunchy Greek salad and washed down with local wine or ouzo. The traditional tavernas also offer a spot of Greek dancing and plate smashing for your entertainment. There is a good selection of bars, cafés and an odd disco to enjoy a drink, however a small taxi ride will take you into Laganas and the choice there is huge. Kalamaki is quite upmarket and also has more international restaurants offering Indian, Chinese, and Italian cuisine too.

Kalamaki couldn’t be better positioned to see more of this beautiful island, furthest away but well worth a visit is Smugglers Cove, only reached by boat, combining beauty of the beach and a modern smugglers shipwreck, totally dramatic and stunning too. Scuba diving is huge in Zante, with many underwater experiences to by enjoyed, in particular the Blue Caves and Keri Caves, brimming with marine life. Dozens of fabulous beaches, Monasteries and museums, green valleys and lush countryside are another reason to drag yourself out of your village.

With spectacular scenery, amazing wildlife, fabulous beaches and resorts to cater for all tastes and budgets, its no wonder Zakynthos is becoming a number one destination in Greece.
