Alykanas – Zakynthos (Zante)

Transfer Time – 1 hour 15 minutes

Best for – Couples and families looking for a traditional resort

Alykanas is situated on the north east coast of the island, set in lush green surroundings and offering you some of the prettiest scenery on the island, Alykanas is a fairly flat area and is perfect for walkers who enjoy meandering around the countryside, through olive groves and pine clad backdrop to this resort. Alykanas offers a traditional resort with a modern chic feel to it, perfectly blended to create the perfect holiday destination.

During the day, relax in one of the al fresco cafés and tavernas, wander around the selection of shops, boutiques and souvenir shops or explore the local markets and pick up a bargain. The harbour is also a perfect place to while away your days, taking in a cool drink, watching the fishermen and locals and sit and watch the world go by. The beach is another popular place to unwind, a gorgeous golden sandy beach, gently shelving into the sea. There is plenty parasols and sun loungers for hire and the beach is un crowded even during high season. There are plenty water sports for the more energetic, ranging from pedallos, canoes, jet skis and paragliding, to name but a few. Alykes, a neighbouring resort approximately 1 kilometre away also has a lovely beach and is perfect for a stroll.

Evenings in Alykanas can be as busy or as quiet as you choose, all family friendly and with in easy walking distance of the accommodations. The restaurants and tavernas offer local produce, fresh fish is a popular choice, usually caught fresh that day and brought into the harbour and straight into the restaurants. The Greek tavernas often have entertainment in the way of Greek dancing and a floor show, occasional plate smashing, great for all the family. Drinks can be taken in any of the bars, cafés and cocktail bars, again some livelier then others. Some offering evening entertainment and some just chilled out and relaxed. There are a couple of discos offering dancing til the early hours too, so really there is something here, regardless of taste or preference.

Alykanas is perfectly located for exploring the whole of Zante, if you can bear to leave this little piece of heaven. Local buses run regularly into neighbouring resorts and also into Zakynthos Town, with its many shops, souvenir shops, markets and abundance of historical sights too. Alikes is within walking distance and offers a nice change of scenery. Boats trips have always been a popular way to see the island, take a trip up to Smuggler’s Cove and take in a spot of diving or watch for dolphins, monk seals and the famous loggerhead turtles. There are many fabulous beaches in Zante too and also many water parks and the like for the more energetic.

Zakynthos really has something for everyone and is a popular destination where people tend to travel to more than once. Beautiful mountainous landscapes, lovely local people and resort that offer a little bit of Greek magic.
