Koukounaries has got to be the most beautiful resort on the island and has probably the best beach in Greece. A jewel of a resort situated on the sou-westerly tip of the island. With a beautiful lake too makes it a perfect area is you enjoy a stroll in the sunshine too. The scenery in the are is lush and green with pine trees and lovely local flora and forna giving of a lovely aroma that you may never experience again.

The beach in Koukounaries is voted as one of the best beaches in Greece, with lovely soft, golden sand, running gently into the beautiful turquoise sea. The waters are shallow for a long way out, making this a perfect for families with children or for those a little less confident in the sea, water gently laps the shore, no huge waves or surf. The next best beach has to be Banana Beach which is within a walk from Koukounaries and a popular destination for tourists on the island, many people visiting for a day trip too. There are a great selection of water sports for the more energetic including water skiing, jet skiing and the usual banana and tubes pulled by speed boat. There is also paragliding and a diving centre nearby so again, perfect for those wanting to explore the wonders under the sea here too.

The night-life in Koukounaries is relaxed and laid back although there are plenty places to wine and dine. There are a variety of bars, ouzeries, cafés, restaurants and of course the traditional tavernas, offering traditional cuisine, Greek dancing and the occasional spat of plate smashing. Bars and restaurants are very family friendly and evenings are spent relaxing over a meal and chatting with the locals and other holiday makers.

There are many lovely excursions you can take to see a little bit more of this beautiful island. Skiathos Town, the islands biggest resort, is a short bus ride away, with a fabulous selection of shops, boutiques and souvenir shops, also with historical sights in the Monastery if Evangelistra and stunning local churches. Sailing and diving are popular past times too, hire a boat and see all the beautiful coves and other resorts that this little island has to offer, and of course there are many beautiful sights under the turquoise sea too making it great for diving and snorkelling.
