Kamari – Santorini

Transfer Time – 15 minutes

Best For – Lazy days and lively nights, suits families and couples alike

Kamari is a stunning resort, with stunning mountain backdrops and fabulous views over the bay, it makes for a perfect Greek break. Many of Santorini’s beaches are superb, but Kamari has definitely got to be one of the best. Situated on the flatter side of the island, the east coast, Kamari is a sun worshippers paradise.

Kamari is blessed with a beautiful dark sand and shingle beach, shelving gently into the crystal blue waters of the Mediterranean, a perfect place for kiddies to play in the shallow, safe water and a lovely area to spend long sunny days on this beautifully sheltered beach. There is a good number of sunbeds and umbrellas to hire and the beach is relatively uncrowded even during high season. The beach has a great number of water sports for the more energetic, there is water skiing, para gliding, jet skis, canoes, pedaloes and much much more.

The night-life in Kamari is excellent, and caters for all walks of life. There is a good choice of bars and cocktail bars, some with evening entertainment too. They are all family orientated and welcome children, they are a friendly bunch, those Greek’s. The restaurants and tavernas offer a wide selection of menu, catering for all. Some of the more traditional tavernas host occasional Greek evenings, where you can experience traditional Greek dancers, even join in, and of course the all famous plate smashing, you’ll have a great night, we recommend you to try it. For those who want to dance the night away, there is the main beach road which comes alive in the evenings and offers a lively and fun area to spend your evenings through to the early hours.

A short taxi or bus ride from Kamari and you can experience some historical architecture, explore 9th century Byzantine churches and forts, many of them destroyed in the 1956 earthquake, however the ruins are very interesting and educational. The relics of the Dorian city, a 17th century monastery and a church built in 1100AD are also fantastic to take a look at. For those looking for nice beaches, take a trip to Perissa, a blue flag beach with lovely beach front cafés and tavernas, lovely for a change of scene. There are many shops selling local crafts, leather goods and souvenirs and be sure to watch out for local markets where you are sure to pick up a bargain.

Kamari is a beautiful destination for any summer holiday, the locals are fabulous, the days are lazy days and the nights can be as busy or relaxed as you choose, perfect, I’m sure you will agree.
