Afandou – Rhodes

Transfer Time – 1 hour 20 minutes

Best For – Families and couples wanting a laid back resort

Afandou is a beautiful resort, very traditional and in a perfect location on the east coast, should you wish to visit other parts of this lovely island. Afandou is a very scenic resort, surrounded by lovely countryside and olive trees, local flora and forna. Another plus for this resort is its location to Faliraki, perfect if you have younger people wanting a lively holiday, a short taxi ride and they can have bars, disco’s and nightclubs.

Afandou has a beautiful beach, soft sand and shingle gently shelving into crystal blue waters of the \Mediterranean. It is perfect for families and those who enjoy paddling in the shallow waters. Afandou has a small selection of water sports on the beach for those feeling more energetic, but don’t forget there are 2 major resorts in Faliraki and Rhodes Town where you can get a bigger choice and they are only a short bus ride or taxi from the village. Afandou’s beach is large and un crowded, and there is also many smaller coves offering more privacy with in a short walk of the main beach.

The night-life in Afandou is very family friendly, enjoying a nice chat over dinner and maybe a bottle of wine. There are many traditional Greek tavernas offering wonderful Greek produce and many even offer a spot of Greek dancing and the usual plate smashing, entertaining for all the family. There are many snack bars, and cafés along the seafront and in the village itself offering a change of menu and also a handful of international restaurants too. Night-life is fairly laid back with a selection of bars and cafés, and the odd cocktail bar, but all in all, very family friendly and relaxed. Don’t forget that the very lively Faliraki is a stone throw from Afandou should you wish to dance til the early hours.

Afandou is perfectly placed to explore this wonderful island, 14 kilometres south of Rhodes Town with its massive choice of architectural sights and historical interests. You should also try to take in the Acropolis too. Then for the young and the young at heart, there is a water park with slides and splash pools, great fun for all the family. The main resorts have local markets, selling local crafts, leather and gold, and souvenirs. Kalithea is quite close for those wanting to experience some rest and relaxation, with natural thermal spas and mud baths, makes for a fun and relaxing day out. There is Jeep safaris, boat trips, in fact too many to mention.

Rhodes is one of Greece’s sunniest island with great temperatures all season, beautiful beaches and crystal clear waters, not to mention the fabulous locals who bend over backwards to ensure your holiday is special.
