Molyvos – Lesvos

Transfer Time – 1 hour 45 minutes

Best For – Families and couples looking for a traditional Greek holiday.

Molyvos, or originally named Mithimna, is a simply stunning destination to choose for your Greek holiday, with narrow cobbled streets, red tiled, pastel shaded houses rising up to the Castle on top of the hill, a traditional village, just about keeping up with the times, is a perfect resort for all walks of life, families, couples or small groups looking to relax through the day and enjoy lively or quiet bars and cafés of an evening.

Molyvos is a mixture of working harbour and pretty town beach. The beach itself is pebbly but perfectly situated for sunbathing and also a perfect place for snorkelling and swimming. The beach gently shelves into the crystal, blue sea and is uncrowded, even during high season. If you want a sandy beach, Anaxos and Petra, neighbouring resorts have stunning, golden sandy beaches and are not too difficult to get to, the local bus service runs regularly to both resorts. The beach at Molyvos has a good selection of water sports too, for the more energetic, there is water skiing, jet skis and pedaloes to name but a few and again for a wider selection, you can always spend the day at one of the nearby resorts.

The towns night-life is well spread out, wander through the beautiful cobbled streets, or beachfront for a good selection of bars and cafés and tavernas and restaurants. Or maybe you just want to sit and watch the world go by, the harbour area is perfect for that, with a lovely choice of Al Fresco bars, restaurants and tavernas and cafés. Molyvos, being a working harbour has some of Greece’s best fish restaurants with the local catch of that day heading the menu, another favourite is local grown lamb dishes, mouthwatering, I guarantee. There is a selection or disco’s and lively bars on the outskirts of town to, perfect for those wanting to dance til dawn.

Everyone who comes to Lesbos must visit Eftalou, with crystal clear waters and home to a hot chlorinated spring with water reaching 45*, perfect to rid you of those aches and pains of everyday life, fantastic as a pick me up and all totally natural, amazing!! Lesvos is host to many historical sights, with Byzantine castles and churches, and ruins dating back to 1100AD. There is a good selection of boutiques, shops and supermarkets selling local crafts and artefacts. There is also The Petrified forest….stone and tar like, the remains of a forest millions of years old which have been excavated from the volcanic ash which has killed them, but preserved them, unbelievable.

Lesvos is the third largest island and has many beautiful resorts, be sure to take a look around, Anaxos, Petra and Skala Kalloni are well worth a visit. Lush Valleys, pine covered mountains and vast sunny beaches.
