Best For – Couples and families wanting a perfect beach holiday

Anaxos has got to one of Lesvos’s best resorts, a tine, unspoilt, traditional village nestled between the stunning mountains, lush and green and down to the sensational crystal, blue waters of the Aegean sea. A charming and peaceful resort with plenty amenities to keep everyone happy.

Daytimes are often spent on the fabulous beach in Anaxos, a gorgeous sandy affair, gently shelving into shallow waters, making this a perfect location for those with children who like to play in the calm, clear surf. There are a number of sun loungers and parasols for hire and a good selection of beach cafés and tavernas where you can take a refreshing drink or lunch and escape the midday sunshine. There are many shops, boutiques and souvenir stalls in the village itself too, explore the little winding streets and take in a long cool drink whilst watching the world go by. There are many smaller coves nearby too, should you wish for a little piece of heaven all to yourselves, and lots of interesting walks too.

Night-times in Anaxos are more relaxed although there are plenty of bars, cafés and cocktails bars where you can sample the varied evening entertainment, but in general, evenings a re spent over a lovely meal, a bottle of wine or two savouring the wonderful local produce this little island produces. There are plenty cafés and snack bars, a couple of international restaurants too, however, most people favour the local Greek tavernas, with wide range of menus, good wine and occasional floor shows of Greek dancing and the occasional plate smashing, great entertainment for all the family. Nearby resorts of Petra and Molyvos offer a busier night-life too and are easily reached by taxi or local bus service.

If you can bear to drag yourself away from this Greek paradise, Mytilene, the islands capital has a castle, Roman theatre and other interesting archaeological ruins and museums. There is also The Petrified Forest, a stone like and tar coloured, the remains of a forest which has excavated from volcanic ash which both killed and preserved them, a very eerie experience. Eftalou is a fabulous idea for a day out, beautiful natural springs reaching temperatures of 45*, then a quick dip into the sea, makes for a relaxing, yet exhilarating experience. Boat trips are another wonderful way to explore the delights of this island, take a trip around the island, stopping off at some beautiful resorts and secluded coves only reachable by boat.
