Mastihari – Kos

Transfer time – 35 minutes

Best For – For those wanting to experience a typical Greek village, relax and unwind.

Mastihari is a beautiful, quaint working fishing village located on the north west of the island, an up and coming resort quickly becoming more and more popular every season. Mastihari is such a beautiful place to relax and unwind, sitting in one of the many cafés and tavernas along the harbour, watching the local fishermen mending their nets and generally sitting back and watch the world go by, simply gorgeous.

The beach at Mastihari is lovely with lovely golden sand, gently sloping into the crystal, sparkling waters of the Mediterranean. There are plenty sun loungers and parasols and the beach remain relatively uncrowded even during high season. There are no water sports on the beach but if you require something a little livelier through the day, Kamari is just a little further down the coast, a Blue flag beach with a massive selection of water sports, i.e., water skiing, jet skiing and para gliding to name but a few. Mastihari is perfect for snorkelling, with lovely shallow waters and plenty areas to spot the underwater wonders.

Evenings in Mastihari are spent wandering the cobbled streets, with Al fresco cafés and tavernas and a good selection of shops, boutiques and souvenir shops. There is a good selection of bars and cocktail bars, but again all with a relaxed atmosphere, perfect to sit back, chat and enjoy. The village itself has a nice choice of places to wine and dine, fresh fish restaurants are favourite with diners enjoying the freshest fish caught locally that day. There is a good selection of typical Greek tavernas too, with some Greek dancing and plate smashing thrown in for good measure.

Mastihari is a perfect base to get out and about and explore this beautiful island, but before you leave be sure to stroll along the beach until you come across the remains of a 5th century basilica, keep walking and you will come across some amazing coves or maybe you want to jump ship and visit nearby islands of Kalymnos or Pserimos. Away for Mastihari and the choice is endless, depending on what suits your party, there is endless historical sights, castles, museums, churches and remains. There is water parks and fun fairs, lush beaches and trips to Turkey or Rhodes too.

Totally laid back, very traditional and extremely beautiful, thats Mastihari……!!!
