Transfer Time – 1 hour 30 minutes

Best For – Best suited to those looking for a tranquil, laid back holiday

Katelios is a very attractive, traditional Greek fishing village set in a lush green valley, on the eastern coast of this wonderful island. The surrounding scenery is beautiful and the views are breathtaking, perfect for those who like a stroll. Katelios is well situated for local transport, however many prefer to hire a car to see the amazing sight this gem of an island has to offer.

There are two beautiful beaches in Katelios, offering a perfect place to unwind and enjoy the long sunny days. The sand is beautiful soft golden sand, gently shelving into the crystal blue waters, perfect for families and very popular with snorkellers and divers. There is plenty sunbeds and parasols for hire and are well spread out so you don’t feel over crowded at all. There are limited water sports in Katelios, however there are many major resorts with more choice, only a short bus ride away.

Evenings are spent over a relaxing meal or enjoying a drink with the locals and other holiday makers in this traditional Greek village. The village has a good choice of tavernas and restaurants, especially fresh fish restaurants, packed with a choice of the local catch of the day. The more traditional tavernas offer local produce and even a spot of Greek dancing and plate smashing into the bargain, perfect entertainment for all. Not a neon light in sight!!

Kefalonia is host to so many different excursions and places to visit and Katelios is a perfect base from which to explore. Historically, you have The Abbey of St Gerasimos, an ancient monk castle or Angalaki and Melissanthi caves which change colour though out the day, stunning and well worth a visit.

Then you have many famous beaches, Antisamos, the beach made famous by the movie, ‘ Captain Corelli’s Mandolin. Makris and Plati Yialos, stunning beaches with a huge choice of water sports on offer.

Boat trips are a fabulous way to get around and see some more of this beautiful island and the local wildlife is fabulous too, try spotting dolphins, rare monk seals and the illusive loggerhead turtles, and take a visit to the translucent waters of Myrtos.

There is so many more fantastic opportunities if you can bear to drag yourself out of this stunning resort of Katelios, is it an island of great beauty, history and spectacular wildlife, who could blame those who return here year after year???
