Transfer Time – 1 hour

Best For – those looking for a laid back, quiet resort

Skala Rachoni is a beautiful, traditional Greek village, where at one time the locals earned a living through the import and export in the harbour and also by the many, many olive groves in and around this beautiful resort. Skala Rachoni has lots to offer holiday makers, and has recently become a popular destination where people return again and again.

The beach at Skala Rachonirachoni is superb, absolutely perfect if you have young children or non swimmers in your group. The beach is wide and uncrowded and has soft golden sand, gently shelving into crystal clear and shallow waters, a perfect place for kiddies to play. Snorkelling has always been popular here too with much to see under the water. Walk along the beach and you will find a great selection of water sports for those who don’t just want to relax and look at the magnificent views!! There are jet skis, para gliding, pedallos and water skiing to name but a few. For those who want to sit back and chill out, there are plenty of sun loungers and parasols to hire and there are a good few tavernas and cafés offering tasty lunches and a break from the midday sunshine.

Evenings in Skala Rrachoni are very quiet, there are a handful of bars and cafés serving drinks until the early hours, and don’t be surprised to find yourself among the locals who join you of an evening. There are a good selection of places to eat out, snack bars and cafés offering light snacks or there is more traditional tavernas who lovingly prepare local produce and serve it up along with a floor show occasionally. Take in a little Greek dancing and the odd plate smashing and wash it all down with the locally produced retsina wine. Again, the locals often come out and socialise in the same tavernas, a very family friendly affair.

Mountain biking is really popular in this area of Thassos, with many fantastic areas to ride through and many other villages to visit within a short distance. Take a trip through the olive groves and see spectacular scenery from the mountain tops. Thassos also has many historical sights to see, ancient temples dedicated to Athena and Apollo can be seen in nearby Limenas, there are ancient ruins in Thassos town, an amphitheatre and museums and churches, all available in guided tours if you so wish. Boat trips are also a popular way to get out and about and see more of this beautiful island, taking in villages, ports and secluded coves, makes a perfect day trip.

So for a holiday where you can completely recharge those batteries and mix with friendly locals, enjoy beautiful beaches and see stunning scenery, Skala Rachoni has all you could wish for.
