Limenaria – Thassos

Transfer time – 40 minutes

Best For – Families and couples looking for a traditional village, great night-life and lovely beach

Limenaria is the second largest town on Thassos, located on the south west coast and facing the beautiful Mount Athos, best known for its breathtaking scenery, friendlily locals and huge choices of fabulous beaches. With a fantastic working port, its great fun to sit and watch the locals coming and going whilst sipping a cool iced coffee or long drink.

Limenaria has many beaches to choose from, all offering something a little different from the next. Next to the port there is a small town beach with a good selection of cafés and tavernas at hand, however most families and couples walk approx 10 minutes to the west and enjoy Limenaria’s main beach, a beautiful golden sandy beach, gently shelving into the crystal blue water and with a great selection of water sports on offer, ranging from pedalloes, banana and ringo rides, jet skiing, para gliding and water skiing to name but a few. There are many other fabulous beaches and private coves where you can relax and unwind and all have a beach bar, or cafés and tavernas where you can escape the midday sunshine.

Limenaria has a wide and varied choice of night-time entertainment. Apart from the huge selection of shops, market stalls and souvenir shops which tend to be open til the early hours, there are a great selection of bars, cafés and cocktail bars offering a mix of ambience depending on what you require. There are plenty of restaurants, fast food and cafés in which to enjoy and evening meal, however the more traditional tavernas are a firm favourite with the locals and other holiday makers, all preparing local produce and in particular fresh fish, and many also provide a floor show of Greek dancing and plate smashing, always popular with all the family.

The town of Limenaria has many interesting historical sights, calamine mines and zinc mines and there is a beautiful folklore museum of Papageorgiou as well as many local churches too.

Beach Lovers will love Thassos, there are so many beautiful beaches on Thassos, Skala Prinos in particular, with its stunning backdrop of pine trees and miles and miles of soft golden sand. The countryside is so beautiful too, that many people like to hire a car or moped and go up into the mountainside and enjoy a drink or two in one of the tine Greek villages on the route.

Thassos has something for everyone, its a truly beautiful destination and its no surprise that people return here year after year.
