Where can you go with children, where they will be entertained and you can get that well deserved break, well Greece and its islands offer some of Europe’s finest destinations to choose from with fabulous beaches, a great selection of accommodations and crystal clear seas, friendly locals and fabulous locally produced food and drink. The Greek islands have it all.

There are over 1400 Greek islands but only 270 are inhibited, but some are so remote that some only have a couple of people living there. When making a choice for your family holiday, its important to learn as much as possible about the area and what it offers to you all as a group. The Greek islands vary in size and because there are so many of them, they are split into groups.

The “Cyclades” are based in the south east, often experiencing the highest temperatures, with fabulous white churches and houses built into the mountainside, offering spectacular scenery, islands such as Santorini, Mykonos, Ios and Syros, with their quiet, laid back atmosphere and beautiful secluded sandy beaches, offering a more relaxed atmosphere, perfect for island hopping and history too.

The Sporades include islands such as Skiathos and Skopelos, with its beautiful green lush mountains and perfect sandy bays, a good selection of resorts offering plenty of family friendly bars and restaurants, some amazing boat trips and diving opportunities.

The you have the Ionian islands, with the more well known islands such as Corfu, Kefalonia, Zante, Parga and Lefkas, where you can choose between lively resorts offering an abundance of bars and tavernas or again look for the quieter villages offering relaxation. All offer an excellent selection of accommodation ranging from 2 star basic though to exclusive 5 star hotels.

And last but not least you have the Dodecanese islands of Kos, Kalymnos, Rhodes, Leros and Symi, again offering a variety of resorts suiting all tastes and budgets and offering masses of history to explore, excellent beaches and family friendly places to wine and dine.

Most major islands offer a great selection of water sports on the main beaches and most islands sport a water park or two, perfect for cooling down on those hot summer days. Athens is generally easily reached by ferry from most Greek Islands so maybe a trip to The Acropolis is in order, expand the children’s minds with a touch of local history, or maybe just allowing them to play with children from other families also experiencing the delights of the the Greek islands is what’s on order, either way, you will find something for everyone in Greece and all at a price that wont break the bank.
