Lanzarote is a year round destination popular with both families and couples alike. Lanzarote is the fourth largest of the Canary Islands and is situated off the coast of Africa, hence boasting year round tempratures, and with a frequent flying programme from the UK, is most popular with the British.

Lanzarote enjoys mild climate conditions all year round making it a wonderful destination in both Summer and Winter. Lanzarote receives very little rainfall due to the flat nature of the island.

Lanzarote is volcanic in origin, as with all of the Canary Islands and boasts the longest Volcanic Tunnel in the World. The Atlantida Tunnel which is over 7kms long and includes the La Cueva De Los Verde or Green Caves as they are known, and also Jameos Del Agua which is also part of the volcanic cave system.

Lanzarote has a large variety of glorious beaches, ranging from the fine white sands of the North to the golden sands of the busy resort Puerto del Carmen, to the black sand of Playa Quemada. You will be amazed at the contrast that is unique to this interesting island. The most beautiful beach of all must be Papagayo near the resort of Playa Blanca. These golden sands are a must for beach lovers and whilst nudist bathing is common, by no means is it compulsory.

Shopping is a must in Lanzarote as along with the other Canary Islands enjoys a special Duty Free Tax status. Many duty free goods can be purchased in the resorts and towns and can be much cheaper than the airport. There are numerous Boutiques to be found in the main resorts as well as electrical shops. Don’t be afraid to ask for a discount as the displayed price is always negotiable! There is also a market in the old town of Teguise, where you will find a large selection of local crafts such as paintings, handmade jewellery and African wood carvings. Remember…always haggle.

Whilst a little quieter than the other Canary Islands such as Tenerife, Lanzarote still has plenty of nightlife to suit most tastes. Puerto del Carmen is the busiest resort with an array of live music bars, and discos. The promenade has many restaurants that cater for all tastes, Paella being the speciality. The other resorts such as Playa Blanca and Costa Teguise have also sophisticated cocktail bars for the post restaurant crowd.

So whether you are looking for self catering, half board or all inclusive, Lanzarote has accommodation to suit all. The best prices tend to be pre Christmas, so go for the sun before the Christmas rush.
