S’Algar is a lovely resort situated on the East coast of the island, this is a perfect resort for a romantic holiday of for families who want to relax and chill out. The resort is close to other major resort, just a short walk or taxi ride, so you can have best of both worlds. S’Algar has been a popular destination for water sports enthusiasts for many years, with a first class diving school and wide range of water activities, its just perfect if that’s what you like.
There is no so called beach in S’Algar, there is a lido which has been built along the rocky coastline and there is a good selection of sun loungers and parasols, as well as restaurants, cafés and bars nearby too. However, a few minutes walk will take you to the fabulous sandy beach at Cala Alcaufar, a wonderful area, with soft golden sand, which gently shelves into the crystal, blue waters, a perfect place for kiddies to play as the surf is gentle and the waters are warm. Again there is many secluded coves if you wander a bit further and Mesquida Beach is easily reached too, a top beach with many activities on offer. The diving in this area is fantastic, and the diving school offers tuition for adults and children alike, people come from miles around to dive in these clear waters and glass bottomed boats are another way to enjoy the views.
Night-life in S’Algar is very laid back, mainly spent over a meal in one of the lovely restaurants, washed down with local wine and then maybe a wander up to the handful of bars in the village. The resort has a family feel to it and children are welcomed into the bars and cafés at night too. For a much livelier night life, you should take a taxi into nearby Es Castell, where there is a much larger choice of places to wine and dine. The shops are open late in S’Algar with plenty choices of where to pick up a bargain or souvenir.
S’Algar is perfectly positioned to visit other area on this wonderful island in the Balearic’s, Mahon, the islands capital has literally something for everyone, with many historical sights including a 17th century fortress and its own medieval area of town, it certainly feeds the culture vultures.
